Dhaka, Thursday, July 30, 2026: BRAC Bank has rolled out Bangla QR at BRAC University to facilitate cashless transactions on the campus in Merul Badda, Dhaka, taking a significant step towards supporting Bangladesh Bank’s \u201cCashless Bangladesh\u201d initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Md. Mostaqur Rahman FCMA, Governor of Bangladesh Bank, inaugurated the initiative as the chief guest at a ceremony at the university on July 30, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, PhD, Vice-Chancellor, BRAC University; A.N.M. Moinul Kabir, Director, Payment Department-1; Md. Sharafat Ullah Khan, Director, Payment Systems Department-2, Bangladesh Bank; and Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, Managing Director & CEO, BRAC Bank, along with students and faculty members were present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Arshad Mahmud Chowdhury, PhD, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Ariful Islam, Treasurer; and Professor Mohammad Mujibul Haque, Dean of BRAC Business School, BRAC University, were present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the programme, the governor held an interactive session with students, answering their questions on Bangla QR, digital payments, and Bangladesh Bank’s initiatives to promote a cashless economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under this initiative, financial transactions on the BRAC University campus – including tuition and academic fees, cafeteria and retail payments, and other day-to-day transactions – can be completed through Bangla QR and other digital banking channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative also supports Bangladesh Bank’s national strategy to expand digital payments through Bangla QR, the country’s interoperable QR payment platform. The platform allows customers of banks and mobile financial service providers to make instant payments using a single QR code, regardless of their financial service provider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commenting on the initiative, Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, Managing Director & CEO of BRAC Bank, said, \u201cThis initiative demonstrates how technology can make everyday transactions simpler, faster, and more secure. We are delighted to partner with BRAC University in launching Bangladesh’s first cashless campus and remain committed to supporting Bangladesh Bank’s vision of a Cashless Bangladesh through innovative and inclusive digital payment solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bangla QR is a bold step towards attaining a digitally inclusive society and economy, said Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, PhD, Vice-Chancellor, BRAC University. \u201cHowever, we have to ensure the mass population\u2019s access to connectivity and smart devices, which are the two other major pillars of the overall digital ecosystem, to ensure that inclusive society,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was organized with the assistance of students of the Finance and Accounting Club of BRAC University (FINACT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch reflects BRAC Bank’s continued leadership in digital banking and payment innovation. It also highlights the power of collaboration between the public and private sectors in accelerating Bangladesh’s journey towards a modern, inclusive, and cashless economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
