The event brought together Senior government officials, policymakers, business leaders, investors, and AmCham members for a constructive dialogue on strengthening Bangladesh\u2019s investment climate and translating policy reforms into greater investor confidence and investment.
AmCham President, Mr. Syed Mohammad Kamal, commenced the event by recognizing the strong potential for increased U.S. investment in Bangladesh, particularly in emerging and technology-driven sectors. He emphasized that while Bangladesh has many of the fundamental\u2019s investors seek, consistent implementation of policy reforms will be critical to converting this potential into sustained investor confidence and actual investment. Mr. Syed Mohammad Kamal underscored the need to translate reform momentum into predictable and tangible outcomes, helping strengthen Bangladesh\u2019s position as a preferred destination for U.S. investment, technology, and trade in South Asia.
Mr. Md. Mahbub ur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC, emphasized that investor confidence depends on the security and stability of capital, underpinned by a predictable and transparent business environment. He stressed the importance of building on Bangladesh\u2019s competitive strengths, noting that facilitating trade would help attract greater domestic and foreign investment.
The Honorable Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury MP outlined the Government\u2019s efforts to foster a more conducive business environment by reducing regulatory barriers and improving the ease of doing business. He highlighted ongoing deregulation initiatives and mechanisms for businesses to raise concerns about regulatory bottlenecks.
On taxation, the Hon\u2019ble Finance Minister noted that reforms are underway to build a more efficient and transparent framework through greater expertise and automation. He also emphasized efforts to streamline port and customs procedures to facilitate trade and investment. Reaffirming the Government\u2019s commitment to engaging with the private sector, the finance minister stressed that policy predictability and consistency are essential to strengthening investor confidence and supporting sustainable investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The luncheon concluded with an engaging interactive Q&A session, moderated by AmCham President Mr. Syed Mohammad Kamal, providing members of the business community an opportunity to exchange views with the Honorable Finance Minister on Bangladesh\u2019s economic outlook and key policy priorities. The discussion touched on revenue mobilization, private investment, and the broader regulatory environment, including the need for greater access to capital for startups and emerging businesses. The Honorable Finance Minister emphasized the Government\u2019s focus on benchmarking compliant businesses, ensuring tax obligations are met, and accelerating the full automation of the taxation system to reduce corruption and improve efficiency.
