But when he was suddenly hospitalized with a serious illness, a blood transfusion became a critical part of the care that helped him recover.<br>Amid the uncertainty, Ardie found an unexpected connection: one of the nurses caring for her son was someone she had hired years earlier as a recruiter for the Red Cross Blood Services team.<br>&#8220;She said, &#8216;Ardie? You probably don\u2019t remember me, but you hired me seven years ago as an apheresis therapeutic nurse with the Red Cross,'&#8221; Ardie said. &#8220;She went on to share that although she now works at the hospital, she still volunteers with the Red Cross whenever she can.&#8221;<br>After sharing a hug, the nurse told Ardie something she didn&#8217;t expect \u2014 the blood products used to help her son came from the Red Cross.<br>&#8220;In that moment, I broke down in tears,&#8221; Ardie said. &#8220;The gravity of it all hit me, understanding that what I do every day matters. Even though I\u2019m not on the front lines, my work helps connect people to a mission that saves lives.
