Dhaka : BRAC Bank and Bangladesh Bank have signed a Participation Agreement to disburse low-interest, easy-term loans from a Tk 5,000 crore working capital refinance fund dedicated to the country\u2019s cottage, micro, small, and medium enterprise (CMSME) sector.
The agreement was signed at Bangladesh Bank\u2019s head office on September 8, 2026. Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, Managing Director and CEO of BRAC Bank, signed on the bank\u2019s behalf. Syed Abdul Momen, Additional Managing Director and Head of SME Banking, BRAC Bank, exchanged the agreement document with Md Jabdul Islam, Director of the SME and Special Programmes Department of Bangladesh Bank.
Md Anisur Rahman, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, attended as chief guest, along with Nahid Rahman, Executive Director, and Shahanaz Parveen, Additional Director of Bangladesh Bank.
The fund, introduced under Bangladesh Bank\u2019s Tk 60,000 crore stimulus package, aims to supply CMSME entrepreneurs with the working capital they need to run production, service and business operations at full capacity. It also seeks to lift momentum in a slowing economy by generating direct and indirect employment across the country.
The financing will go to operational CMSME enterprises that cannot run at full capacity because of a working capital shortage. Eligible enterprises can access the facility at an interest rate of 9 per cent.
Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, Managing Director and CEO of BRAC Bank, said: \u201cOur founder, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, established BRAC Bank with a clear purpose: to address the financing challenges faced by the country\u2019s CMSME entrepreneurs. This reflects the scale of our commitment to enabling entrepreneurs to realise their potential and contribute to economic progress in Bangladesh.\u201d
\u201cThe working capital refinance facility from Bangladesh Bank will further strengthen our ability to support these entrepreneurs as they expand their businesses and contribute to a stronger economy. At the same time, we must continue to explore innovative ways to extend greater access to finance for CMSMEs and support the next generation of entrepreneurs,\u201d he added.
