Dhaka, 22 March :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given the following message on the occasion of ‘World Meteorological Day-2022’:
“I am happy to know that the ‘World Meteorological Day-2022’ is being observed in Bangladesh as elsewhere in the world. The theme of this year ‘Early Warning and Early Action, Hydrometeorological and Climate Information for Disaster Risk Reduction’, I think, is relevant and meaningful in the present context.
The Awami League government has been working relentlessly on disaster risk reduction, climate change and mitigating its challenges to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the last 13 years, it has been possible to reduce the damages and losses of lives and properties to a greater extent by providing early warning and taking early actions on widespread impact of climate changes and other extreme events like cyclones, thunderstorms, storm surges, heavy rainfall and drought. At present, Bangladesh is a role model in Disaster Management activities in the world. The overall capacity to provide accurate and timely weather and climate forecasts by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has significantly increased as a result of various steps taken by our government.
We are implementing ‘Bangladesh Weather and Climate Services Regional Project (Component-A)’ to realize our `Vision-2041’ by providing well developed science-based weather and climate forecast. The quality of meteorological services will increase manifold when this project will be implemented.
I hope, through the celebration of this day, a positive attitude will be developed among the country people about the early warning of various natural disasters caused due to the change of weather, water and climate, and it will raise public awareness for disaster risk reduction.
I wish grand success of all initiatives taken on the occasion of the ‘World Meteorological Day-2022’.
Joi Bangla, Joi Bangabandhu
May Bangladesh Live Forever.”
