Rajshahi : State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku has said that the historic Rajshahi Central Zoo will be transformed into a modern, scenic, and international-standard safari park, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the local residents. The State Minister made the disclosure while speaking to journalists this morning after inspecting the Rajshahi Central Botanical Garden and Zoo. In the past, the heritage and beauty of the Rajshahi Central Zoo were severely compromised due to mismanagement, corruption, and unplanned activities. However, the current government has taken sincere and effective initiatives to overhaul the situation,” the State Minister said. He also said, an expert team will visit Rajshahi shortly to assess the feasibility of upgrading the zoo into an international-standard safari park. Based on their recommendations, a comprehensive master plan will be formulated to execute the development work in phases, he added. Addressing allegations of irregularities, the minister assured that an investigation would be launched into the disappearance or relocation of animals from the zoo in the past, and necessary actions would be taken. New species of animals will also be introduced gradually to boost diversity and attract more visitors. Responding to another query regarding the establishment of a slaughterhouse in Rajshahi, the State Minister assured that a modern meat processing center (slaughterhouse) will be set up soon to ensure hygienic slaughtering and marketing of meat for city dwellers. The site for the project has already been finalized, he mentioned. During the inspection, Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, Director of the Department of Livestock Services Dr.Md. Bayzer Rahman, senior officials from the district administration and RCC, relevant departmental heads, and leaders of BNP and its associate bodies were present. -ত.বি.
