After surviving the devastating floods that left her stranded on the roof of her home for two days, Celeste Ibarra faced an uncertain future after losing nearly everything.
With nowhere else to go, Celeste spent nights sleeping in her truck as she searched for a way forward, all while caring for a daughter battling cancer.
Hoping to find a few essentials for her family, Celeste visited a Disaster Assistance Center. Instead, she found support, compassion, and a path toward recovery.
Grateful for the assistance her family received from the American Red Cross, she later visited the Red Cross response headquarters to personally thank the volunteers who stood by them during one of the most difficult times of their lives.
Reflecting on that experience, Celeste shared, “We are more grateful than you could ever imagine.” As she continues rebuilding, she hopes others remember: “It’s okay to ask for help because there are good people out there willing to help.”
