Dhaka : VLSITHON 3.0, a competition for aspiring VLSI engineers, concluded on Thursday, bringing together 206 students from 106 teams representing more than 30 universities to test their VLSI skills. The University of Chattogram’s team ‘Deviation’ emerged as the champion. ‘Voltix’ from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology became the first runner-up, while ‘Density Demons’ from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology secured the second runner-up position. The champion team ‘Deviation’ received a prize of Tk 100,000, while the first runner-up ‘Voltix’ received Tk 60,000 and the second runner-up ‘Density Demons’ received Tk 40,000.The grand finale and award ceremony was held at Ulkasemi’s Dhaka Design Centre at 3:30 pm on Thursday. The event was organised by Ulkasemi, a pioneer in Bangladesh’s semiconductor industry, in collaboration with the Ulkasemi VLSI Training Institute (UVTI) and with support from American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). This year’s competition focused on the Place and Route (PnR) domain. Following a training phase comprising seminars and workshops, the top 10 teams were selected through theoretical examinations and assessments using Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools. The top three teams were then selected following case-solving and presentation rounds. AIUB Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Saiful Islam attended the event as the chief guest. Dr Md Nazrul Islam, Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended as the special guest, while Mohammad Enayetur Rahman, CEO and President of Ulkasemi, was also present. Speaking at the event, Ulkasemi CEO and President Mohammad Enayetur Rahman said, “VLSITHON is creating a bridge between academic studies and the real-world requirements of the industry. “Many participants of VLSITHON are now successfully working at Ulkasemi and other organisations. This proves how competitions like this can help students become industry-ready.” He also emphasised the importance of developing VLSI-related skills for those seeking to build careers in the semiconductor sector.
