National winner from London School of English earns a sponsored trip to the Cheltenham Science Festival in the UK [Dhaka, Bangladesh, September 07, 2026] The British Council has successfully hosted the Grand Finale of FameLab Academy Bangladesh 2026 today at its Fuller Road premises in Dhaka, celebrating the nation’s next generation of science communicators. Humaira Tafshir Sara from London School of English emerged as the national champion, while Warda Fatima Khan from Sir John Wilson School and Md. Ziaul Haque Reyan from St Joseph International School secured the First Runner-Up and Second Runner-Up positions, respectively. FameLab Academy is a STEM communication competition for high school students (Classes IX–XII). It challenges participants to explain a complex scientific, engineering or mathematical concept in three minutes on an empty stage, using only hand-carried props and no PowerPoint slides, digital aids or notes. Participants are judged on the core criteria of Content, Clarity, and Charisma. This year’s competition saw increased participation across Bangladesh, with 44 candidates from 22 schools, compared with 31 participants from 11 schools last year. A total of 39 students competed in the regional rounds, with 10 advancing to the grand finale. The finalists represented seven institutions: Sir John Wilson School, London School of English, Kids Campus School, Paramount School and College, Maple Leaf International School Dhaka, Grace International School and St Joseph International School. Addressing the audience, Zunayed Ahmed, Managing Director and Head of Market at the British Council Bangladesh, said: “FameLab is not really testing how much our finalists know. It is testing whether they can make the rest of us care about what they know. Knowing something and being able to explain it are two different skills. Two-thirds of today’s marks go to how well a finalist is understood, not just how much they understand.” The performances were evaluated by a panel of judges comprising Ahsanul Azad, Head of Business Improvement at the British Council Bangladesh; Faria Marha, Research Assistant at icddr,b; and Dr. Salekul Islam, Professor, Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, North South University. Before the finale, the 10 national finalists completed a two-day Masterclass on 26–27 August led by UK science television presenter and Master Trainer Dallas Campbell, focusing on stage presence, storytelling and delivery. As the national champion, Humaira Tafshir Sara will receive an all-expenses-paid trip from the British Council to attend the Cheltenham Science Festival in the United Kingdom. Besides, all 10 finalists received prizes from the event’s brand partners. GoZayaan provided a BDT 10,000 travel voucher to the winner and BDT 3,000 vouchers to the other nine finalists. Gorur Ghash provided 20 percent discount vouchers on fashion apparel, while Prothom Alo offered complimentary 12-month digital subscriptions to its ePaper, including e-editions of Kishor Alo and Biggan Chinta. GrabGo provided premium backpacks and Headgear provided custom caps to all finalists. The event concluded with a certificate presentation and networking session for students, parents, school principals, mentors and guests. -Press Release Post Views: 19 Post navigation Govt, NGOs, Youth Groups Unite to Improve Survivor Support in Cox’s Bazar
