Comilla :Minister for Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid today expressed his commitment to addressing the existing problems at Comilla Medical College Hospital (CuMCH) and said initiatives would be made to increase its bed capacity to 1,000.The minister made the remarks while addressing the Intern Graduation Ceremony (Cum-29) and Doctors’ Reunion 2026 as the chief guest at the newly constructed auditorium of Comilla Medical College.The minister said the government was prioritising the supply of necessary medical equipment to medical colleges. He added that he would discuss the allocation of essential equipment for the hospital with the Health Minister.Emphasising the importance of proper maintenance, he urged hospital authorities to ensure that medical equipments remained functional throughout its designated service life. The minister also stressed the importance of compassionate and patient-centred healthcare. He said doctors should listen attentively to patients, understand their health problems and provide appropriate advice.‘Spending adequate time with patients and listening carefully to their concerns help build their confidence and provide mental comfort. Sincerity and humane behaviour are as important as medical treatment,’ he added.Addressing broader public health concerns, the minister said environmental pollution and declining food quality could have adverse effects on human health. He added that the government was working to ensure food safety and control harmful pesticides through appropriate measures. He urged doctors to go beyond prescribing medicines and advise patients on disease prevention, particularly the importance of consuming safe and nutritious food and maintaining healthy lifestyles.The minister said proper dietary habits and lifestyle changes could help reduce the risk of many diseases. He called upon physicians to raise public awareness about preventive healthcare and the role of safe food in maintaining good health. Addressing the newly graduated doctors, he urged them to dedicate themselves to public welfare and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, responsibility and compassion.The programme was chaired by Comilla Medical College Principal Professor Dr. Md.
