Dhaka : An emotional and colourful reunion of former members of the legendary Bangladeshi band Prometheus, which rose to prominence during the golden era of Bangla band music, took place on 13 October at Artist Club in Banani. Neither a formal nor a pre-scheduled event, the gathering came together spontaneously in an atmosphere of warmth, nostalgia and friendship. As a well-wisher of the band, I was fortunate enough to be present at this rare get-together. Founded in 1986, Prometheus opened up new horizons in Bangla rock and pop music. Throughout its four-decade musical journey, the band has released around 20 albums. Heartfelt songs such as Miloner Rokto, Nirjon Shalbone, Shadhinota Chai, Muktir Protyashay, Projonmer Songram, Joddha and Smritir Kopat have become an enduring part of Bangladesh’s recorded music history. The special get-together and luncheon were arranged spontaneously following the return of guitarist and band founder Rezwan from the United States for a brief 10-day visit to Bangladesh. Organised on the initiative of the band’s sound engineer and manager, Anisuzzaman Anis, the gathering brought together former members who had been associated with Prometheus since its early days and at different stages of its remarkable musical journey. Those present included the band’s founder and guitarist Rezwan, bassist Bulbul, drummer Koel, sound engineer and manager Anisuzzaman Anis, and guitarist Apu. Keyboardist Pallab also joined the gathering, adding to its lively atmosphere. However, the group was unable to connect online with the band’s lead vocalist, Biplob, and founder and lead guitarist Arif, who were abroad. Their absence was deeply felt by everyone present. The highlight of the heartfelt conversations around the lunch table was the exchange of untold stories from the band’s early days in 1986, memories of studio sessions, and the experiences that shaped the formation and evolution of Prometheus. The contributions of Biplob, Arif and other absent fellow musicians were also remembered with deep respect and affection. Although busy schedules and geographical distances mean that former Prometheus members can no longer gather regularly under one roof, their sense of brotherhood, enduring personal bonds and passion for music remain undiminished. Surrounded by four decades of friendship, cherished memories and the enduring magic of music, the reunion on 13 October served as a poignant reminder that time may pass, distances may grow and life may become increasingly busy, but the bonds forged through music never grow old. Prometheus’s distinctive creativity, timeless songs and iconic musical legacy will remain an evergreen part of Bangladesh’s band music history.Press Release Post Views: 26 Post navigation Photo : PM
