· ·When the Aspen Acres Fire affected their communities, people from across southern Colorado wanted to know what they could do to help, even if they assumed they didn’t have the time or skills to make a difference.Thanks to the American Red Cross local community volunteer program — which removes many of these barriers by offering flexible volunteer opportunities that accommodate a wide range of skills and schedules — people like Erika Fortin and Chip MacEnulty were able to help neighbors, friends and anyone in need.“People think joining the Red Cross means committing two or three weeks of your life,” said Red Cross Volunteer Experience Manager Dana Goldsmith. “But that’s not true. You can give an afternoon or a few hours.
