🩸 The Red Cross just declared its second-ever national blood crisis. Here’s what that means for Louisiana.
Right now, hospitals across Louisiana and the country are facing a severe blood shortage, and the need is critical. Our Louisiana Regional CEO, Dr. Kenneth St. Charles, recently donated at the Ochsner Health Blood Bank and connected with Matthew Wilson (Blood Bank Supervisor) and Dr. Ian Stephens (Director of Transfusion Medicine), about just how urgent the need has become.
Blood donations have fallen to a 4-year summer low. Donors, especially those with type O blood, are needed ASAP to help save lives.
The Red Cross doesn’t run blood collection centers in Louisiana, so local donors are what keep hospitals stocked. Hospitals are counting on donors to show up at places like Ochsner and other local collection sites.
