Dhaka :
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has said that halal food culture and values can become an asset and a source of strength not only for the Muslim world but also for the entire human civilization.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a seminar titled ‘Think Halal, Grow Global,’ organized by the Malaysian High Commission at the Radisson Blu Hotel in the capital today.
The Information Minister said halal food, halal culture and halal values would not only become a source of strength for the Muslim community; they would also become a source of strength for humanity. Referring to the large global market for halal food, he said the development of halal products and culture is not merely a religious or cultural matter; it is also linked to the global economy and human welfare.
Highlighting the shared values of Bangladesh and Malaysia in religious and social spheres, the Information Minister said Bangladesh and Malaysia can jointly leverage their shared values, culture and experiences to play an important role in developing the halal industry and expanding the global market for halal products.
The Information Minister said demand for halal products is steadily increasing in the global market. People are waiting for access to more quality halal products. At the same time, investors are also looking for opportunities to capitalize on the potentials of this sector. Therefore, the right concepts, information, knowledge and a business framework need to be developed for entrepreneurs involved in the halal industry.
He remarked that if the right concepts and knowledge can be brought together, this will develop into a large market and further increase the acceptance of halal products among the consumers.
The Minister called upon entrepreneurs, investors, businesspeople and relevant institutions to work together in a coordinated manner in this regard.
Referring to the recent visit of the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Kuala Lumpur, Zahir Uddin Swapon said that the way Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim welcomed the Prime Minister of Bangladesh during the visit, and the way the Malaysian authorities made excellent arrangements for the Bangladesh Prime Minister, were a shining example of the friendly relations between the two countries. For this, he expressed gratitude to the Government of Malaysia and its Prime Minister on behalf of the Prime Minister and the Government of Bangladesh.
He said the foundation of the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia is not limited to state-level communication; the relationship can be further strengthened through the values, culture and mutual cooperation of the peoples of the two countries. He remarked that the halal industry could emerge as an important new area of such cooperation.
Malaysian High Commissioner Mohd Shuhada Othman and President of the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industries Anwar Shahid addressed the seminar.
