Dhaka :
Minister for Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir received the Prime Minister of Bhutan Dasho Tshering Tobgay at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport during his brief stopover in Dhaka today. During the brief interaction, Minister and State Minister conveyed warm greetings from the Prime Minister to the Prime Minister of Bhutan.
The Ministers appreciated the excellent bonds of friendship between Bangladesh and Bhutan that cemented over time since Bhutan, as the first country, recognized Bangladesh in 1971. Both leaders discussed the bilateral issues of mutual interest.
The Ministers expressed Bangladesh’s keen interest to contribute to the development of the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) of Bhutan, particularly by providing professionals, skilled and semi-skilled human resources. Recalling the vision of Late President Ziaur Rahman for a prosperous South Asia, Ministers requested Bhutan’s support for the revitalization of SAARC for the collective benefit of the region and peoples.
The Ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present at the meeting.
The Prime Minister of Bhutan stayed at the VVIP lounge for around one hour and then left on his way to Germany.
